COT reports are released each Friday at 3:30 p.m. and provide a breakdown of the previous Tuesday's open interest for markets in which 20 or more traders hold positions equal to or above the reporting levels established by the CFTC.  There are as many ways to parse the COT reports as there are analysts.  STA reports the net position (longs - shorts) of large speculators as a percentage of total open interest.
